A New Respect for Health Care

This is the seventh day I have spent at the Neuro-Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT. My wife suffered a stroke on Christmas Day - a spontaneous dissection of the carotid artery. I will write more about my wife and our experiences soon. Today I just wanted to comment on the care, expertise and empathy displayed by all the professionals.

I am so impressed with the knowledge that is necessary to understand the body, mind and how everything works together and one thing can affect another. The complexity is overwhelming and at the same time fascinating.

I am impressed by the passion that drives many of these professionals here at the Stroke Center. They really do truly care and it shows. They get excited by the victories and you at the same time understand that they don't all end up in victories and many times the deficits are overwhelming.

I am impressed by the amount of staff in the ICU. Each nurse has no more than two patients and then they have other people that can help them with various tasks, etc. Many other professionals are supporting in the background and it all seems to come together and is somehow managed.

God Bless all that work in medicine, nursing, therapy, etc. Thank you for all that you do day in and day out. You help give many a better experience in this game of life.

Happy New Year!
